Dr. Julia Morgan

Dr. Julia Morgan is Associate Professor of Public Health and Wellbeing at the University of Greenwich, London.  She has a PhD from the London School of Economics which focused on the health and wellbeing of children and families.  By background she is a health professional and previously worked in community development and engagement to empower communities.   Her multi-disciplinary research has focused on the experiences of women diagnosed late with ADHD;  mothers in prison; and children who experience the imprisonment of a parent.   Her more recent work includes research on the training of community health workers in Tribal areas of India; mobile health for Nomadic peoples in Mongolia, and maternal health for Indigenous women in South America.    She has carried out several evaluations of community groups and non-government initiatives in Lebanon and Zambia and has used a wide range of community development tools to support the engagement of community members, including children,  in research and evaluation.  She is currently working on funding bids to support community engagement in Sierra Leone and Nepal to strengthen maternal and neonate health promotion initiatives.  She is the co-editor (along with Dr Vincent La Placa) of three books with the publisher Routledge:  1) Social Science Perspectives on Global Public Health; 2) Contemporary Issues in Health and Social Care Policy and Practice:  A Comparative Introduction across OECD Countries; and 3) Contemporary Global Issues in Urban and Rural Public Health and Wellbeing: Theory, Policy, and Practice.   She has successfully supervised over 100 PhD and MSc dissertation students and is on the Editorial Board of the Journal PLOS One.   

Anjum Khurshid

Dr. Anjum Khurshid, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor of Population Medicine at Harvard Medical School and the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute. He is the Chief Data Scientist for the Sentinel Operations Center. Dr. Khurshid was previously the Co-Chief, Health Informatics, Data Science and Epidemiology Division, Department of Population Health and the inaugural Director of Data Integration at Dell Medical School, The University of Texas at Austin. He is the co-principal investigator on community-wide projects for integrating social determinants of health in electronic health records and developing patient engagement platforms for health data. He received the Health Informatics Innovator Award in 2013, as the principal investigator of the $13.5 million Crescent City Beacon Community Program in New Orleans. He also established the Louisiana Clinical Data Research Network (now REACHnet) as part of PCORnet.

Dr. Khurshid is a pioneer in research on blockchain applications for healthcare and was voted by peers for the University Blockchain Research Institute’s Visionary Award, 2021. He has served on the Federal Advisory Committee for Health Information Technology, a congressionally mandated advisory body, and as a patient engagement advisor to the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute, Washington DC. Dr. Khurshid earned his medical degree from King Edward Medical University, Lahore and his Masters in Public Affairs and PhD in Public Policy from the University of Texas at Austin.

Prof. Carl Kendall

Dr. Kendall, a medical anthropologist, is a former acting chair of the Department of Global Community Health and Behavioral Sciences and in the Department of International Health. He was an Associate Professor at Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health where he founded the Center for International Community-Based Health Research. Dr. Kendall is a Fulbright Senior Fellow, CNPq Senior Researcher, and served on three Institute of Medicine, National Academy of Sciences panels. He served on the governing council of the American Public Health Association. Dr. Kendall has extensive international project and research experience, having worked in more than forty countries on Child Survival, AIDS, and vector-borne diseases, primarily focusing on monitoring and evaluation. In 2013-2018, he was awarded a Science without Frontiers award from the Brazilian government to train Brazilian students at Tulane and to encourage collaboration among Brazilian and Tulane students and researchers. This collaboration continues through the CNPq Visiting Professorship that Dr. Kendall holds in the Department of Community Health, School of Medicine, Federal University of Ceará. Currently, Dr. Kendall is working with collaborators on a range of projects in Brazil centered around emerging and neglected diseases in vulnerable populations such as Zika, COVID-19, and Leprosy, as well as intervention development incorporating anthropology to encourage adolescent MSM to use PEP and PrEP in Fortaleza and to develop strategies to address trafficking and abuse among underage female sex workers in Recife.

Prof. Dr Krishna Gopal Rampal is Professor of Community and Occupational Medicine at the University of Cyberjaya (UoC). He has been involved in teaching medical students for 42 years. Prior to this he served as Professor at the Perdana University Graduate School of Medicine (PUGSOM) and the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).  He has a Master of Public Health and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the Johns Hopkins University Baltimore. He obtained his MBBS degree from the Sarojini Naidu Medical College Agra in 1975. He is a Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine Royal College of Physicians Ireland, Faculty of Occupational Medicine Royal College of Physicians London, Academy of Occupational and Environmental Medicine Malaysia, Academy of Medicine Malaysia and of the Collegium Ramazzini, Italy. In 2004 Prof Rampal was awarded the National Leadership Award (Tokoh) by the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health (NCOSH) Malaysia. In 2019 he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academy of Occupational and Environmental Medicine Malaysia and in 2023 the Malaysian Medical Association Outstanding Public & Healthcare Services Award. He has edited books in his field and published articles in both in local and international journals. He is regularly invited to present papers at local and regional scientific conferences.

Olanrewaju Oladimeji

Olanrewaju Oladimeji is a professor and head of doctoral studies in the Department of Public Health at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University. He is an NRF Y1-rated researcher and a member of the South African Young Academy of Science (SAYAS). His academic journey started at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Subsequently, he embarked on postgraduate studies in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the same institution. Here thereafter obtained PhD in Public Health from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Following this, he was awarded a prestigious Fogarty Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Global Health at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, USA.

Ola is very passionate about implementation research, contextualised interventions, interconnectedness between TB, HIV, Mental Health, and other non-communicable diseases, Olanrewaju has adjunct professorial affiliations with institutions in Africa, where he plays a crucial role in mentoring the next generation of researchers. Having supervised over 45 postgraduate students and mentored numerous junior researchers. His scholarly contributions manifest in a plethora of publications in DHET-accredited journals, reflecting the significance of his work in high-profile citations, with a Google Scholar citation index of 47,717, an h-index of 33, and an i10-index of 61.

He was the Principal Investigator of the AKITH STUDY SAMRC-WSU RCDI Grant Award and one of the PIs of the Khulani Siphile Siphuhle Training Program (KiSS-TP) NIH D43 grant, Olanrewaju spearheads transformative research initiatives aimed at producing doctoral-level research capabilities, particularly in academics from historically disadvantaged institutions. Additionally, his role as a Faculty Mentor for the Sustained Academic Research and Training Program (SACERT) underscores his commitment to nurturing doctoral-level research capacity and promoting international collaboration. Currently, he serves as a Guest Editor for a special collection on “Health Disparities” in Scientific Reports, Editorial Advisor to F1000 Gateway Global Public Health, and Academic Editor to both PloS One and BMC Public Health. He is one of the recipients of SAMRC 2024 Scientific Merit Bronze Award for his outstanding scientific contributions to health research in South Africa.

Prof Michelle Engelbrecht is an associate professor and Director of the Centre for Health Systems Research & Development at the University of the Free State, South Africa. She obtained a PhD (Interdisciplinary, Sociology and Psychology) in 2005 and is a NRF C2 rated researcher. Her research interests are focused on health systems strengthening through a programmatic lens, particularly the integration of TB-HIV/AIDS s
ervices; TB infection control and prevention; occupational well-being of health care workers; the health systems response to COVID-19; and sexual and reproductive health. Her most recent work is centred on male partner involvement in maternal and neonatal health, with a focus on gender transformative interventions. In addition to her research, she also provides postgraduate supervision for Masters and PhD students in Psychology, Health Systems, Health Professions Education, Public Health and Development Studies.

Dr. Eugenie Tan, a distinguished scholar with a Ph.D. in Environmental Quality and Conservation from UPM, Malaysia, has earned recognition as a Kuok Foundation Scholar and recipient of the “Rikita Inouye Award” for academic excellence. Augmenting her qualifications, she holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Tertiary Teaching (PGDTT) and a Postgraduate Certificate from the American Academy of Environmental Medicine. Her professional standing includes affiliations with the Academy of Sciences Malaysia and licensing as a ‘Professional Technologist’ by the Malaysian Board of Technologists.

In her role as the Head of Postgraduate Studies at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UCSI University, Malaysia, Dr. Eugenie contributes significantly to the academic and research landscape. Her publications and research focus on environmental factors for healthy aging, environmental toxins, microplastics, endocrine-disrupting compounds, health-related quality of life, and environmental health.

Dr. Eugenie is deeply committed to community engagement, actively participating in initiatives like public talks, outreach programs for refugees, and donation drives. Her holistic dedication to both academia and community service underscores her commitment to making a positive impact in her field and broader society.

David Mnkandla

David Mnkandla is an experienced Development Practitioner with a demonstrated history of working in the public health care industry, rural and urban development. Skilled in Nonprofit Organizations, Humanitarian, Proposal Writing, Fundraising, Report Writing and Partnerships. Strong professional with a BSocSc Honors Degree in Monitoring and Evaluation from Lupane State University, Post Graduate Diploma in Development Management, Post Graduate Certificate in Development and a Master of Science Degree in Development Management all from The Open University UK.

Very passionate on working with community-based organizations in areas of operational research, capacity building, networking, stakeholder engagement, advocacy and community-led monitoring. He has worked from well established NGOs in Zimbabwe and South Africa, which include Zimbabwe YMCA, Zimbabwe AIDS Network, Positive Women’s Network, Right to Care and NACOSA. Currently David is working for NACOSA in South Africa as a Programme Manager and responsible for Community Systems Strengthening in response to HIV, TB and STIs. Amongst other notable achievements in his current responsibilities David has developed numerous standard operating procedures (SoPs) for use by community-based organizations in community screening for HIV, STIs, TB and GBV.

Dr. Pahurat has been a dedicated professional in the Department of Disease Control at the Ministry of Public Health in Thailand since 1993. Initially focused on public health preparedness and response within the Bureau of General Communicable Diseases, she earned her Ph.D. in Medical and Public Health Social Sciences in 2011. In 2013, she transitioned to the Bureau of Risk Communication, specializing in crisis risk communication for public health emergencies, including the Emergency Operations Center. Dr. Pahurat has developed numerous training programs, procedures, and guidelines addressing significant health threats such as MERS, SARS, avian influenza, Zika virus, Ebola, and COVID-19.

She is currently evaluating her concepts on event-based risk communication and its integration with health literacy. Now serving as the Director of the Secretariat Office of the Royal Development Projects Committee, Dr. Pahurat oversees initiatives related to diseases such as HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis, particularly in rural and prison health contexts. In addition to her administrative role, she is a visiting professor at Mahidol University and Thammasat University. She collaborates with institutions in Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Vietnam, as well as international organizations like WHO and ASEP. Her expertise in crisis risk communication significantly contributes to public health efforts at national, regional, and global levels.
